InterPlay as a Spiritual Practice with Amy Shoemaker

Learn to have more ease and openness through improvised movement, story, voice and stillness. The spiritual practice of InterPlay can facilitate deeper connections with the divine, other people and our planet. As improvisation becomes easier in our bodies, we have more access to our own wisdom, making us less afraid of what might cross our path. Rather than reacting with fear and paralysis in the face of what is unknown, we can breathe, dance, and find fullness.

Join the founder of InterPlay Brazil at Thursday night’s InterPlay San Francisco class!

Nadia Thalji is Interplay’s ambassador to Brazil and South America! Nadia Khalil Thalji is an InterPlay Leader, theatre artist, dramaturge, educational facilitator and multi – disciplinary Performing Artist active in community development and university teaching in Brazil. Co – Director and performer of Constellation Performance Ensemble with Masankho Banda. She’s interested in the connection between art, social change, multiculturalism and spirituality. Her special interests are creating performing arts training practices that are both ethical and sustainable, and, facilitating conversations in international organizations that can nurture creativity, innovation social justice and cultural understanding. She has particular strengths in the areas of performance skills, voice and movement, and exploring the relationship between energy and creativity, physicality and spirituality. Mentor of “Cultural Diversity Celebration – Honoring People and Cultures through art ” first held in Brazil and now in the USA and the International Day of Peace Celebrations gathering 2000 people in Brazil (2009 and 2010).

WING IT! Performance Ensemble does it’s best to prepare you for whatever might happen on the “Ides of March” (March 15) which was certainly a bad day for Julius Caesar. What danger do you experience in your life? Are you a reckless person or a cautious one? Do you take risks? What makes you feel safe?

The company—anywhere from 10 to 20 of us—will create dances, stories, songs, live music, humor and some “near misses” all on the spot in our inimitable and entertaining style.

Masankho is a multi – disciplinary Performing Artist, Certified InterPlay Leader, Educator and PeaceBuilder. He brings many unique perspectives to his work around the world. He learned the fine arts of storytelling and dance from his Malawian culture spending many long days and nights listening to stories and dancing to music that captivated his mind, shaped his being, nourished his soul and strengthened his spirit. Using performing arts Masankho motivates and inspires people of all ages to work together to bring about peace, social justice and cultural understanding. In 1997, he started UCanDanc? African Healing Arts to bring his passion for dance and storytelling to communities around the world. Masankho has been a Certified InterPlay Leader since 1999.

Teamwork: InterPlay Style

InterPlay is a vibrant, growing community of people who are interested in living a more fulfilling, more creative, more connected life. What would happen if the InterPlay approach was applied in an organizational setting? InterPlay co-founders Phil Porter and Cynthia Winton-Henry have started asking that same question.

A powerful new one day workshop taking place in Oakland, CA called “Teamwork and Beyond” is founded on the idea that most companies, organizations, and corporations are run like machines with easily replaceable parts. If one person quits, just replace them with another person who has similar skills and qualifications. Teamwork and Beyond sees the flaws in this approach to organizational leadership. People are not machines. Instead of seeing a group of people as a machine, see it as a body. A body that hurts and heals, learns and grows, adapts and changes. A body that requires rest and care, tenderness and nourishment as well as discipline and expectation.

I attended Teamwork and Beyond this fall and it really got me thinking deeply about how professionals connect and the limitations of that connection in different environments. The structures of our groups should reflect the values and needs of the individuals within that group. I especially appreciated this workshop for bringing me together with professionals who are seeking new ways to lead.
